The Chobe Boardwalk & Deck will go down in Chobe Game Lodge history. It’s one of those milestones that in years to come when we reminisce about the olden days, time will be measured as before or after the deck was built.
So what makes the Chobe Boardwalk & Deck so special?
It’s the ultimate Chobe vantage point with all the luxury you can expect from a 5-star lodge.
On the 9th September 2013 the extension connecting the pool and boma area was completed and we now have more than 250 meters of elevated boardwalk hugging the shoreline of the Chobe River, culminating at the famous ‘Far Deck’. Nestled around the Mahogany tree 10 meters above the river, the Far Deck is decorated with chairs, couches, dining tables, umbrellas and it’s very own new bar and kitchenette.
The deck is fully wheelchair accessible with six dining venues and has a dedicated waiter on hand to serve you a glass of bubbles while you enjoy gazing across the floodplain, one of Chobe National Park’s most productive game viewing areas.
Excited guests recently told us they lost count at around 300 elephants. Almost as far as the eye can see, hundreds of elephant congregate across kilometers of floodplain in the heat of the afternoon.
Sable and Puku often graze the floodplains in front of the deck along with numerous other antelopes. Civets and Porcupines live below the boardwalk, buffalo are regulars and sightings of predators such as lion and leopard are not uncommon.
Did we mention that it’s eco-friendly? The deck is constructed using timber from a sustainable source and over 2 million plastic bags went into the making of the timber plastics decking as an alternative to wood. Energy efficient LED bulbs light the way and recycled grey water irrigates the areas around the deck creating a perfect refuge during the dry season for birds and mammals alike.
There is simply no other place like it! Come and see Chobe at its best from the Chobe Game Lodge Boardwalk & Deck!
