Wouter Theron

Wouter Theron: Environmentalist/Guides Trainer - Chobe Game Lodge:

Wouter was born and raised in Pretoria. After school he went to study for his National Diploma in Nature Conservation at the Technikon Pretoria. He started working in the Kruger National Park as a student ranger at the end of 1998. During this time he also got involved in guiding, taking guests on night drives in the Park in the evenings. He stayed on in the Kruger Park after completing his year as a student ranger, and was then employed as a full time guide. During his time in the Kruger Park he attended numerous courses in guiding, weapon handling and dealing with dangerous game, as well as registering with and completing all three examination levels of the Field Guides Association of South Africa.

He worked in the Kruger Park conducting game drives and walking trails until March 2003, when he was employed by Orient-Express Safaris Botswana. He was employed as an Environmentalist working in the three Orient Express camps in Botswana namely Khwai River Lodge, Eagle Island Camp and Savute Elephant Camp. He was tasked with amongst others: guide training, guest activities, gathering information for marketing purposes, monitoring the operations of the three camps to ensure it is conducted in an environmentally friendly manner and getting involved in and conducting both internal and external research projects, and acting from time to time as relief manager in the three camps. He left the services of Orient Express Safaris in October 2004 to join the Chobe Game Lodge team. As Environmentalist/ Guides Trainer his responsibilities include the in house training and managing of the guides team, the training of upcoming trainee guides and managing the guest relations department, as well as gathering information for marketing purposes.
